Guided Tour of Trastevere & Rome's Jewish Ghetto

The Trastevere & Jewish Ghetto Tour is a picturesque walking tour that takes you through some of the most charming areas of Rome with cobbled streets and a medieval feel that is full of Roman atmosphere. Enjoy an off the beaten path stroll through Rome’s most authentic neighborhoods - Trastevere - and be taken back in time to an era of black and white Fellini films where shouts of Roman dialect can still be heard as neighbors still converse from the windows over the narrow streets of Rome’s most hidden treasures.

Visit one of Europe’s oldest Jewish communities in the Jewish Ghetto at Rome's Jewish Synagogue and hear the heroic tale of survival during some of Rome’s darkest hours. Follow along then to the ancient Theater of Marcellus (Teatro Marcello) and on to the oldest hospital in Europe on the Tiber Island.

Half way there, we now enter the famed neighborhood of Trastevere navigating its narrow streets to the Martyrdom site of Saint Cecilia who is honored in the Roman Canon and with her beautiful church built over an ancient roman bath.

Finally senses nearing overload we continue our walk to the oldest Marian Church of Rome Santa Maria in Trastevere deemed by art historians one of the most artistically influential ancient churches in the world.

Fantastic Tour of the Jewish Ghetto & Trastevere!

My wife, a friend and I toured the Jewish Ghetto and Trastevere with Jay. Jay's knowledge of the area and it's history is second to none. His personality is engaging and it was a joy to spend 3 to 4 hours with him and to see the sights in these two amazing areas of Rome. Jay also introduced us to a traditional Jewish bakery where they really only make a couple of items. One of which is called Pizze. People line up for this plain looking bread/pastry?? Not really sure what you'd classify it as, but it's basically a dense "brick" of sweet dough with almonds and dried fruit and cooked to slightly burnt on the outside......and it's AMAZING. One of the many highlights Jay introduced us to on this tour. Even the rain that fell during our tour couldn't dampen our spirits. Thank you Jay and Eternal City Tours for an excellent time!
