Ostia Antica Day Trip From Rome Tour Description

Need a vacation from your vacation? Want to get away from the crowds and busy streets of Rome? Then join us on our half day trip tour of Ostia Antica which is one of the most extensive and well preserved archaeological sites on Earth:

Its ruins rival that of Pompeii which you can visit on our Pompei & Amalfi Coast Tour, but is located only 30 min by train from Rome’s City Center.

Ostia Antica was Rome’s Port City Founded by Rome’s 4th King Ancus Marcius (d. 616BC). Walking its streets and seeing its temple, shops, and houses, you will be taken back in time to an era of commerce and prosperity, not so unlike that of modern port cities.

Discover Rome’s success as a world trade economy and discover the boom and bust which led to the city of Ostia being abandoned.

The walk of Ostia is done in the morning before the summer heat sets in. The Tour finishes at Ostia Antica with 3 options:

  • Continue exploring the ruins
  • Take the 5 min train to the beach
  • Return to Rome

Highlights of this tour include:
  • Necropolis
  • Amphitheatre
  • Gladiator School
  • Baths
  • Grain Mills
  • Wine Shops
  • Forum
  • Roman Houses
  • Ostia Antica Museum

Great Value Tours

We really enjoyed our outing to Osta Antica and our highlights of Rome tour, too. Ostia Antica was much more meaningful with the guidance of Michele. As with James, on our first Eternal City tour, he spent more time with us than we expected and was a wonderfully informed guide. With our group of four, the private tours have been wonderful -- we could go at our own pace and explore our own interests. Great value for the fee.

Excellent Tours with Knowledgable Guides

My brother and I (both adults) took private tours of the Vatican Museums/Sistene Chapel/St. Peter's Basilica and the ancient ruines of the town of Ostia Antica with Eternal City Tours. Both of these tours were excellent and well worth the fee. Rosa provided great information about the Vatican museum and took us through the crowds very efficiently. Paul was our guide to Ostia Antica. He is a teacher and his love and knowledge of the city were evident. He even provided ideas for me to pursue graduate studies in ethics in Rome! He made Ostia Antica easy to envision as it stood in the past. I would definitely tour with this small company again.
