Sts Peter & Paul in Rome Tour Description

Peter and Paul are two of the most influential followers of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. They both would suffer their death in what was then the Capital of the World, Rome. On our 3 hour tour we will visit some of the places where they planted the seeds of evangelization.

The tour begins at the Basilica of Santa Maria in Via Lata where St Paul was held for 2 years awaiting his trial as a Roman citizen in Rome. The first Christian place of worship here is from at least the 5th century with more construction having taken place in the 7th and 9th centuries. The Basilica also contains a miraculous 13th century icon of the "Virgin Advocate".

Then hold your breath as you continue on to the ancient roman Mamertine prison which incarcerated the most notable enemies of the Roman state, Sts Peter and Paul. Experience the moments before the certain death of two men who went from denying and persecuting Christ to dying for Him.

You will then journey on to visit the church of Saint Peter in Chains containing chains that once bound St Peter, brought to Rome by the Christian Empress Eudoxia. Beyond seeing the Chains which once bound Peter in prison in Jerusalem before his miraculous liberation the church also bears the masterful statue of Moses by Michelangelo.

Then boarding the metro you will take a short 5 minute ride to the impressive Papal Major Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls - one of the most beautiful and least visited Basilicas in Rome. This magnificent Basilica is built over the burial site and body of Saint Paul following his execution in the reign of the Roman emperor Nero.

This is a must do tour for all pilgrims and those interested in the apostles and early Christian Rome

.

Highlights of this tour include -
  • Basilica of S. Maria in Via Lata where Paul was under house-arrest
  • Mamertime Prison which held Sts Peter and Paul
  • Basilica of St Peter in Chains to see the chains and also Michelangelo's statue of Moses
  • Major Papal Basilica of St Paul Outside the Walls which contains the body of St Paul

The best tours of Rome!

I went on 5 tours with Eternal City tours: The Vatican, Coliseum, Catacombs, Peter and Paul and the Passion of Christ tour. I can't praise these tours enough. The guides were so knowledgeable about theology and history (James, Ami, Adrian and Tom). We ended up having private/semiprivate tours which were wonderful!! I loved having the Catholic/religious perspective for all the tours. I couldn't believe that I was actually standing in a home in which St. Paul had lived or seeing all the incredible relics of Christ's passion. It was a truly meaningful and transformative experience. I am in awe at what I saw!!

One of a kind tour company!

This was by far my most cherished and loved tour that I have ever taken. The combination of obtaining my goal of standing inside Mamertine Prison and being overwhelmed by the grandeur of St Paul's Basilica is beyond words. This tour was made even more outstanding by the professionalism and wisdom of my wonderful guide! Ask for him!! Eternal City Tours - Sts Peter & Paul

We did a tour with Adrian that focused on the lives of St Peter and St Paul. The tour was great and the time spent with Adrian was informative and a real pleasure. He was an expert on anything I cared to ask him and he gave us truly Catholic insight that we were hoping for. If you want a quality tour and one particularly from a Catholic perspective I highly recommend this company. They seem unique in their offering. Thanks Adrian and Tom.

Five remarkable tours with fantastic guides

My husband and I were making our first trip to Rome on a four day visit. We wanted to experience as much as we could in that time and it was important to us to experience Rome from the perspective of our Catholic faith. We are so grateful we found Eternal City Tours. What a wonderful, knowledgeable group of people. We did 5 tours - the Coliseum, St. Peter and St. Paul, Baroque Churches, Passion of Christ and Vatican. They were amazing. We learned about history and our faith from tour guides who were serious about their Catholic faith, students of history, theology, or art history and more. Chad, Blitch, James, John, and Andrea were a wealth of knowledge - personable - and often went over and above with personal touches - showing us a favorite coffee shop or restaurant - and helping us find our way at the end by walking with us, taking us to the Metro, etc. Andre's knowledge of art brought so much to the Vatican tour. Our faith was enriched through this experience. And it was fun! Tom made the planning easy - responding to all my questions and emails - and every detail was perfectly planned. When we come back to Rome we will definitely be scheduling additional tours with Eternal City. We highly recommend it.

Hands Down the Best Tour Operator in Rome

My wife and I took in 5 tours with Eternal City tours. They were all outstanding. I can say (after having spoken to several family and friends who've visited Rome) that we had the best experience. This is due to the tour guides' main occupation which is usually an academic pursuit in theology, arts, history, and philosophy. Their in-depth knowledge combined with professionalism and excellent training makes their tours more than worth while. I can say a lot of good things but I'll just say this - after spending around $1100 on the tours we still took the last tour guide out for lunch as well as bought them a couple of bottles of wine - we unhesitatingly recommend Eternal City Tours. But really it just boils down to a couple of points. The reality is that most of the tour operators in Rome have an intense dislike of Christianity ... while that's their right they allow this to skew the quality of their tours. After making the effort to visit Rome would you want to pay a tour operator to be on the receiving end of their gripes? If not choose Eternal City Tours!

Chose this tour to get a deeper knowledge of Peter and Paul in Rome. James did not disappoint. History, art, architecture and a view of the neighborhoods we walked through from site to site. Highly recommend this tour especially if you are looking to go to St Paul's outside the Walls.

The Best Tour Guide, Bar None

Our family was very lucky to have booked an ancient Rome tour through Eternal city, and had James as our tour guide. I've booked a lot of tours throughout our travelling across South America and Central America, Asia and Europe. Never have we come across a tour guide as professional and as knowledgeable as James. He is a living history book of Rome and Italy. His knowledge is vast and at the same time, James kept his stories interesting and funny for my 17 y/o, my 13 y/o and my 21 y/o nephew. My kids are still talking and laughing at the stories that James told us during our tour. I wished that we had retained Eternal City and James for my Vatocan tour the previous day. I highly recommend James and Eternal City tour. please feel free to ask me any questions regarding James or Eternal City tour.

Must Join Tour Operator!

We spent a week in Rome with 3 different tour operators/companies and must say that Eternal City Tours is THE BEST. We wanted to join The Passion of Christ tour but there was no tour available on the date we wanted to do it on Viator so we contacted Eternal City directly and they had arranged a private tour for us on our selected date for the same price. We also joined The St. Peter and St. Paul walking tour which not many tour operators offer. Our guides Blitch and Paul were both very nice, knowledgeable and explained clearly. Those two tours are really worth doing as Eternal City would bring you to the non-typical sites. As a non-Catholic/Christian, we have found both tours very interesting on both historical and architectural perspectives and would be more so if people go to Rome for pilgrimage. Highly recommend Eternal City Tours to anyone

By far this was one of my favorite tours. James was absolutely amazing and we really appreciated the extra time that he took to answer our questions. He also gave us a quick lesson on the best places for shopping and dining. He is extremely knowledgeable and pleasant to be around. The tour itself was breathtaking to say the least. The churches were breathtaking and it gave us a better understanding of what we had been taught in church. To be able to have a visual image of what you had only read previously was such a blessing. I highly encourage everyone to take this tour and request James as he was awesome!
